Meta fires employees for disclosing confidential information. This affected about 20 employees. “We inform employees upon joining and regularly remind them that leaking internal information, regardless of intent, violates company policy,” Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold stated. “Following an investigation, we recently terminated around 20 employees for sharing confidential details externally, and we anticipate further actions. We take this matter seriously and will continue addressing leaks as they arise.”
This decision follows a series of news reports revealing details from internal Meta meetings and undisclosed product plans, including an all-hands meeting led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In response to these leaks, Meta warned employees that those responsible would face termination.
In a subsequent leaked statement, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth mentioned that the company was close to identifying those involved.
Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold told The Verge that employees are informed upon joining—and regularly reminded—that leaking internal information is against company policy. “Following an investigation, we recently fired around 20 employees for sharing confidential information externally, and we anticipate more dismissals. We take this matter seriously and will continue to act against leaks,” he stated.
Recently, Meta has faced numerous leaks, with reports revealing details from private meetings, including one led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Ironically, after employees were warned against sharing information, that warning was leaked. Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth later commented that the company was “making progress on catching people.”
Meta has not disclosed specifics about what was leaked or who was involved, but it is clear they are determined to prevent further breaches.
These firings come at a challenging time for Meta employees. The company has made significant changes, including shutting down diversity programs, revising content policies, and laying off staff deemed “low performers.” With workplace morale already strained, this latest crackdown could heighten employee dissatisfaction.
