Job Description:
Media Solutions is a team of passionate designers, illustrators, photographers, and videographers working to help the health sciences faculty, staff, and students visually communicate their message and capture their story. As a fee-for-service unit within the School of Medicine and Public Health, our focus is on providing innovative creative collateral solutions that support and enhance the research, instruction, communication, and clinical goals of the world-class organization that we serve. Additionally, we support the broader campus and community agencies through partnership on a range of creative projects.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative partner to join our team. This hybrid role will concentrate on Graphic Design and Illustration projects in partnership with a broad scope of clients within SMPH and various UW Madison campus entities. Your passion for original and contemporary Graphic Design/Illustration will be demonstrated in your portfolio. Your enthusiasm for design thinking and an eagerness to learn will be highlighted in your cover letter.
Key Responsibility

- Consult directly with SMPH faculty and staff to better understand their communication needs. Determine and execute the appropriate artistic techniques to align with the parameters of the project.
- Problem-solve collaboratively with colleagues and share technical information. Must be able to work effectively independently or as part of a team, be receptive to creative direction, and participate in work critiques.
- Work effectively in a fee-for-service environment – Coordinate timely production processes and prepare detailed documentation for billing.
- Understanding and knowledge of typography, print production standards, font management, pre-press file management, and press checks.
- Conceptualize scientific design ideas and provide design options for client consideration.
- Problem solve using creative resources and technical knowledge.
- Design and produce publications (brochures, booklets, reports, newsletters, manuals) and presentation aids (scientific posters, exhibits, signage). Ensure accuracy through careful proofing of text, design, and content.
- Long form document layout experience – Annual Reports, etc.
- Design and produce diagrams, graphs, charts, infographics, and general illustrations using Illustrator for scientific journals, lectures, textbooks, and exhibits.
- Continual learning on relevant creative software advancements; enhance and broaden creative approaches; keep current in design trends and technology.
- Participate in regular staff meetings.
- Proficient in web design and content management systems (CMS).
- Work with vendors, printers, and external service providers to gather estimates for projects.
- Prepare completed digital products for output by print vendors, for the web and/or mobile devices. Review printer and other vendor proofs for accuracy and quality.
Requirements

- Minimum 3 years of client based Graphic Design and Illustration. Preferably within an agency or higher-education organization.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with Adobe Creative Suite – mastery of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Ability to demonstrate and explain your established design principles and technical layout expertise using Adobe CS.
- Expertise in design project production schedule development and project budget estimation.
- Mastered proficiency in Mac OS.
