Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Healthcare Assistant to join our specialist inpatient unit within the Arthur Rank Hospice. This unique and deeply rewarding role offers the opportunity to provide holistic, person-centred care to individuals with life-limiting illnesses and their families. You will be a crucial part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting patients to live as well as possible, for as long as possible, in a peaceful and dignified environment.

What we need from you:

  • A genuine passion for palliative and end-of-life care, with a compassionate and sensitive approach.
  • Previous experience (minimum 6 months) in a healthcare or care setting, preferably within a hospice, hospital, or nursing home environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate initiative.
  • Monitoring and accurately recording vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure), fluid balance, and escalating any changes or concerns promptly to the nursing team.
  • Assisting with nutritional needs, including serving meals, assisting with feeding, and encouraging hydration.
  • Providing emotional support and companionship to patients and their families, demonstrating empathy and active listening skills.
  • Willingness to undertake the Care Certificate if not already obtained, and commit to ongoing training relevant to palliative care.
