About the Job:
We are recruiting Health Care Assistants (HCA’s) for our Short Stay Unit, The Coleman Unit (TCU). We are looking for individuals who are highly motivated, compassionate, enthusiastic, creative and passionate wanting to gain experience as well as share their learning, knowledge and experience with colleagues. You will work under the supervision of Nurses in the day to day delivery of effective high quality patient’s care and safety, and be part of this already and somewhat established team.You must have excellent communication skills, be highly motivated; enjoy interacting with people and being part of a busy fast paced ward, which works in partnership with the Adult Day Unit.
You will be working closely with and be well supported by experienced Nurses, ward sisters/charge nurses, senior HCA’s, friendly clinical nurse specialists, therapists and world class orthopaedic surgeons. This post is an ideal opportunity to develop orthopaedic knowledge and clinical skills. There’s also an opportunity to develop your career and gain a qualification in Nursing through the Nursing Associate training programme. However candidates must have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade C or above including Maths and English or equivalent in order to be enrolled into the training program. As an individual and as part of a team you will have the opportunity to learn and contribute to new developments within the service through research.
Main duties of the job

- Maintain a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures
- Maintain a high standard of safe clinical work when carrying out duties as assigned by the nurses.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Communicate with patients and carers and escalate to senior staff to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures
- Carry out nursing duties as assigned by trained staff
- To work with the nursing staff to deliver individualised nursing care.
- To report to a trained nurse care given to patients.
- Assist patients with their dietary needs as directed by a trained nurse.
