About the Job: 

 

The Community Healthcare Assistant (HCA) is an integral member of the Integrated Childrens Community Nursing team. They will assist and support nursing, medical, and other professional staff in the delivery of high standards of holistic family centred care to children and families.

  • Clinical tasks undertaken by the post holder will be ratified by the community division. The HCA and team manager are jointly responsible for ensuring competency. Clinical tasks undertaken will therefore be specific to the speciality, clinical area or patient group.
  • You will be required to have a full driving license and use of your own vehicle.
  • Current Phlebotomy experience essential.
  • Secondment would be considered.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will provide the highest standards of nursing care to children and their families.
  • Undertake phlebotomy procedures in a variety of settings; department, home, school or community base once fully trained and competent.
  • The post holder will be an effective communicator in all aspects of their duties both in direct and indirect patient care.
  • The post holder will undertake delegated nursing tasks as deemed necessary to enhance the care of the patient, some of which may be competency based.; wound dressings, stoma care, height and weights, baseline observations including blood pressure, venapuncture, cannulation and capillary blood sampling.
  • Take responsibility for, prioritise and manage own workload to support clinical team.
  • Work without direct supervision using experience and knowledge to ensure the highest quality care is delivered
  • Promote and maintain a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
  • Assist in the basic care required by patients in all care settings.
  • Create and maintain relationships with patients, parent/carers, offering advice and support where necessary.
  • Prepare patient for and assist with specific clinical and non clinical procedures appropriate to the clinical area.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • The post holder will provide the highest standards of nursing care to children and their families.
  • Undertake phlebotomy procedures in a variety of settings; department, home, school or community base once fully trained and competent.
  • The post holder will be an effective communicator in all aspects of their duties both in direct and indirect patient care.
  • The post holder will work in collaboration with the healthcare teams
  • The post holder will work within the confines of their mandatory and statutory obligations, to the prevention and control of infection in all care settings.
  • The post holder will undertake delegated nursing tasks as deemed necessary to enhance the care of the patient, some of which may be competency based.; wound dressings, stoma care, height and weights, baseline observations including blood pressure, venipuncture, cannulation and capillary blood sampling.
  • The post holder will assess and report risk to the Childrens Community Nurse (CCN) lead nurses. The post holder will assist in the orientation and education of new staff.
  • Take responsibility for, prioritise and manage own workload to support clinical team.
  • Work without direct supervision using experience and knowledge to ensure the highest quality care is delivered
  • Promote and maintain a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
  • Assist in the basic care required by patients in all care settings.
  • Assist with the education of new staff and students and ensure they are instructed in the procedures, routines.
  • Create and maintain relationships with patients, parent/carers, offering advice and support where necessary.
  • Prepare patient for and assist with specific clinical and non clinical procedures appropriate to the clinical area.
  • To assist with the day-to-day management of consumables ensuring that the storage and office areas are all tidy and well stocked.
  • To ensure each patient has the correct medical supplies ready and available in a timely manner for delivery or collection.

Person Specification

1.Education and Training

Essential

  • NVQ level 3 / equivalent in a healthcare related topic or equivalent breadth of experience*
  • English and Maths GCSE or equivalent, grade A-C

2.Experience of

Essential

  • Previous health care experience
  • Basic nursing care
  • Current experience Phlebotomy

Desirable

  • Community experience
