About the Job:
- Collection of blood samples in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring the patient is comfortable, obtaining consent for the collection of a blood sample · Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
- Accurate, legible labeling of all samples to confirm patient identity if TQUEST system is down
- Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request
- Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
- Spinning bloods in the centrifuge after the last collection time in line with SWL Pathology protocols
- Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion
- Giving vaccinations under PSDs as agreed with the nurse manager following practice protocols and policies
- Taking and recording blood pressures following practice protocols and policies
- Performing ECGs in line with Churchill and Orchard protocols
- Perform spirometry after undertaking ARTP training against protocols
- Performing audiology appointments in line with CCG and practice protocols
- Undertake doppler studies in line with practice protocols
- To act as a chaperone as required after chaperone training
- To perform simple wound dressings and removal of sutures/staples after assessment by a trained Nurse.
- To record wound progress as appropriate.
- To run Stop Smoking Sessions as per Churchill Medical Centre & Orchard Practice protocol
- To maintain agreed stock level of clinical supplies including vaccines and medicines.
- To rotate stock ensuring appropriate timing of use and prevent wastage
- To work alongside a practice nurse assisting in chronic disease management clinics as per Churchill Medical Centre Protocol
- Ensuring any queries are raised with a senior clinical member of staff · Under take BLS training; deal with faints following phlebotomy
- Notifying the GP or other clinical member of staff of any patient issues outside of your competencies
- Liaising with other members of the nursing team to deliver high quality patient care, receiving and directing patients courteously, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Make effective use of the IT system by ensuring the consistent and accurate recording of information and the correct use of read codes
- To complete the Health Care Assistant Care Certificate, under the mentorship of the Nurse Manager
- Participate in practice meetings, patient participation groups and other meetings to improve engagement with the role of the phlebotomist
- To ensure through safe working practices, the health, safety and welfare of colleagues, patients and visitors and to comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures
- To participate in the introduction of new procedures that will result in improved service provision
- Identify own training and development needs and undertake appropriate training/education as required
- Participate in an annual individual performance review process where objectives will be agreed, performance monitored and personal development needs discussed · To attend all statutory and mandatory training as and when required to do so.
