Working as a Health Care Assistant at Practice Plus Group, Ilford, you’ll provide support to the nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of a high standard of care to patients in a safe and caring environment. .

Above all, you have a natural ability to help make the lives of others more fulfilling and want to work in an environment where the work can be hard, but also fun and rewarding.

Working 37.5 hours a week over 3 days, with the shifts of Early: 07.45-17.45, Mid: 09.00-19.00 or Late: 11.00-21.00 Some Saturday working is required with is usually 1 in 5.

Main duties of the job

The role involves direct contact with patients and their families and therefore you need to be empathetic, friendly and have with good interpersonal skills as well as:

• Supporting the Registered Nurse in the provision of basic nursing care to patients by assisting patients to maximize their independence following training and assessment of competencies, with:
  • Personal Hygiene, including catheter care according to procedures
  • Diet & Fluids
  • Dressing
  • Toileting, including emptying and changing urine drainage bags according to Trust procedures
  • Mobilizing, regaining independence
  • Rest & Sleep
  • Vital sign recording

• Assist the multi professional team to prepare and support patients undergoing treatment and/or investigation maintaining privacy and dignity at all times. Chaperon patients during intimate procedures as required
• Escort non-acute patients with no treatment in progress and/or their relatives/carers to other wards and departments within the unit
• Be aware of the importance of good health and the health education needs of patients which are identified within individual care plans
• Displays excellent two-way communication with patients, families and colleagues. Is able to overcome barriers to understanding when the patients first language is not English or has a neurological impairment, learning or hearing difficulties
• To effectively communicate with all medical, nursing and staff of other disciplines concerning the care of the patient

• You will have an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care and be willing to undertake training to gain further clinical skills.
• Experience or a good understanding of a HCA duties and responsibilities
• The ability to receive and communicate information accurately and take instruction from professional colleagues.
• The flexibility to fit into internal rotating shift pattern
