About the Job:
The Health Care Assistant is a key member of the care team that supports Registered Nurses and other health professionals in the delivery of high standards of palliative and supportive care for patients, families and loved ones. Night Sitter Health Care Assistants play a vital role in providing respite overnight for family carers. This is an awake service the Night Sitter will provide personal care overnight, including emotional, psychological and practical support for patients and their carer.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will predominantly work as a Night Sitter, but may occasionally be required to work across the In-Patient, Hospice at Home and Living Well Therapy Services, providing palliative and supportive care to patients living with advancing illness. The role involves care provision on a physical, psychological, spiritual and emotional level with patients and their families. As a Night Sitter, the Health Care Assistant will usually work on their own in the patients own, enabling the patient to be cared for and die at home, when this is their preferred place of care. Patients will have been assessed by a Registered Nurse prior to a Night Sit being allocated. This post is subject to unsocial working conditions i.e. 24 hour shift rota (day and night shifts, week days and weekends, bank holidays). It will include lone working as a Night Sitter or in delivering Day Respite Care in patients homes. The post holder will work according to the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers (Skills for Health/Skills for Care 2013), and hospice policies and procedures.
