About the Job: 

The post holder is required to support qualified staff within the clinical areas of Medical Physics at the University Hospital of Wales and to contribute to the health and welfare of patients by providing essential nursing care within those areas. The post holder needs to deal efficiently but sympathetically and reassuringly with patients who are anxious or unwell, some of who may be undergoing intimate clinical investigations and to preserve patient confidentiality. This involves working in conditions that are potentially hazardous (due to radiation and radioactivity) and sometimes unpleasant. The post holder is also required to undertake administrative tasks such as being in charge of a reception desk, restocking clinical consumables and storing and retrieving patient information.

Please be aware this role may also include travelling to different hospital sites across the health board (e.g. University Hospital Llandough and Cardiff Royal Infirmary) to support outpatient clinics.

Main duties of the job

Acting as a chaperone when qualified staff are performing clinical investigations on patients.

Supporting patients during clinical investigations including the provision of hygiene and other nursing care.

Assisting qualified staff in performing clinical investigations on patients.

Liaising with and assisting medical staff with enquiries about patient investigations.

Checking patient details, measuring patient’s height and weight and transferring this information to clinical and other staff as required.

Ensuring the general tidiness and cleanliness of the clinical areas and equipment.

Assisting with the transfer of patients between Medical Physics and hospital wards and other departments.

Assisting with the ordering of stock consumables.

Ensuring that all emergency trolleys in Medical Physics are fully stocked and in date according to written procedures.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent. Good standard of general education to GCSE level (5 GCSE’s or equivalent relevant experience)
