About the Job: 

We are looking for an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly nursing team at Avicenna Medical Practice.

We pride ourselves in proving a high standard of care in a supportive environment delivering a patient focussed service.

Previous experience is essential however further training will be offered to the right candidate. Ideally qualified to Level 3 minimum. Must have Phlebotomy certificate.

The role is 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must cover General Practice HCA duties delivering the highest level of care and assistance.

Duties will include, but are not limited to;

Phlebotomy

Assisting with long term conditions clinics such as diabetes, asthma, COPD

NHS Health Checks

Basic Wound Management

Flu and Pneumonia vaccinations

Smoking Cessation

ECGs

BP checks and 24 hour BP checks

B12 injections

Suture and clip removal

Precise and accurate recording on patient records

You will work alongside the existing nursing team to ensure:

Stock levels are maintained by ordering, rotation and sorting deliveries.

Completion of cleanliness, infection prevention control measures and health and safety requirement of the role.

Doctors are supported in their clinics.

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all patients.

We are a family friendly practice who are very team supportive and deliver high quality care to our diverse and deprived group of approximately 8900 patients. Our team consists of 2 GP Partners, 4 Salaried GP, 6 Advanced Practitioners from a variety of backgrounds,2 Practice Nurses, 2 HCA, a management team and clerical team. We are also a training practice for Trainee Nurses.

We are consistently high QOF achievers, CQC Good (April 2022), Investors in People Gold Award achievers (December 2022) and participate in numerous Enhanced Services including Anticoagulation, Diabetes, Ultrasound services, Sexual Health and Dermatology.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

New patient health checks

Flu vaccines and B12 injections

Phlebotomy

Blood Pressure checks

SMI checks

Recall management

ECG

Spirometry

24 hour BP

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs – Nurses

Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment

Vaccine – cold chain storage and monitoring

Associated Administration for HCA workload

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE grade A-C (4-9) in English and Maths
  • NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care
  • 1 years minimum experience working in Primary Care
  • Will be expected to manage their own pre-booked clinics
  • Will be able to undertake consultations within the designated times
  • Able to work to a high standard of care under supervision
  • Able to accept coaching and guidance
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Adaptable to change
  • Flexibility to handle different situations
  • Be caring and compassionate in nature
  • Be able to undertake mandatory training
