About the Job:
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES/AIMS: The post holder will be able to work alone and as part of a team, following practice protocols. Be aware of current evidence based practice and standards. Demonstrate this in supporting the care and service provided by the senior clinicians.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST Phlebotomy, including completing appropriate forms as directed by clinicians. Appointing patients into appropriate clinics. Stock control of all clinical areas and central stores. Baseline measurements. New patient medicals Routine blood pressure checks, referring patients to the practice nurse or doctors as per practice protocols. Fitting & reporting of Ambulatory Blood Pressure Machines. Ordering vaccines and clinical stock. Maintaining record of refrigerator temperatures and cleaning as appropriate. Act as patient chaperone as required. In-house testing of urine samples. Escalating any problems to the nurse team leader or practice manager. Administration of vaccinations and immunisations as authorised under Patient Specific Directives by the Nurse Team Manager or other suitably qualified clinician. Providing certified training has been attained.
OTHER DUTIES Testing of emergency medical equipment. Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines. Ensure the decontamination of instruments and clinical equipment according to local and national guidelines. To be aware of current evidence based approaches to patient care and demonstrates this through continuous improvement of patient care The post holder will be expected to maintain strict confidentiality at all times and be aware of Caldicott principles. The post holder will be expected to familiarise themselves with the health and safety poster of the practice and maintain the responsibilities outlined. The post holder will be expected to remain abreast of current evidence based practice and make use of the learning opportunities offered. Infection control is a significant part of the role with cleaning and sterilising of instruments, and management of clinical waste. Ordering and storage of equipment and vaccines.
