About the Hansen Leadership Institute

The Hansen Leadership Institute (HLI), formerly known as the Hansen Summer Institute, is a prestigious global program hosted at the University of San Diego, California. Funded by the Fred J. Hansen Foundation, the program’s mission is to promote international cooperation and peace through leadership training and cultural exchange.

Each summer, the fellowship brings together 25 international students and 25 U.S. students to explore leadership, conflict resolution, and entrepreneurship — while building friendships that span continents.

Eligibility Criteria

For International Applicants:

For U.S. Applicants:

Be a U.S. citizen, aged 20 – 25
Enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or university
