About the Job: 

  • We are looking for a part time Health Care Assistant to join our busy, friendly team in Bussage, near Stroud.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong IT and communication skills and will have previous experience of working as a Health Care Assistant or in a similar role.
  • The successful candidate will work collaboratively alongside the wider practice team to meet the needs of patients and delivering patient care.
  • Some flexibility to work additional hours to cover holidays and sickness may be required.

Main duties of the job

Primary Responsibilities

  • Baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Routine and 24-hour BP monitoring
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Support the Practice Nurses with the management of chronic disease clinics
  • BMI checks
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • Undertake venepuncture
  • Administer flu vaccinations
  • Ear irrigation under the supervision of the Practice Nurse
  • ECGs as requested
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Provide support during minor operations and procedures as required
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely and their temperatures are recorded in accordance with extant guidance
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the surgerys IPC policy
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
  • Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation
