Meta Adds AI Assistant to Facebook Dating
Meta announced on Monday that it’s adding an AI assistant to Facebook Dating. The tool is designed to make finding matches more personalized. For instance, someone could ask it to look for “a Brooklyn girl in tech” or use it to fine-tune their profile. Meta also introduced Meet Cute, a feature designed to reduce “swipe fatigue.” It gives users a weekly surprise match, picked through the platform’s algorithm.
According to the company, matches on Facebook Dating among 18–29-year-olds are up 10% year over year, with hundreds of thousands in this group creating profiles each month. Still, that’s relatively small compared to rivals: Tinder has around 50 million daily active users, while Hinge reports about 10 million. AI integrations are becoming standard across dating apps. Even newer platforms like Sitch are leaning on AI to stand out.
Match Group which owns Tinder, Hinge, OKCupid, and others, partnered with OpenAI last year, committing over $20 million toward AI initiatives. That’s a significant gamble, considering the company’s stock has dropped roughly 68% in the past five years.
The investment has already led to tools like Tinder’s AI photo selector, which scans your camera roll for the best profile shots, and AI-driven matching. Hinge, meanwhile, uses AI to help users polish their answers to profile prompts.
