About the Job: 

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our practice team to undertake all aspects of Health Care Assistant role.

Main duties of the job

The HCA role is to assist our GP’s and Nurses in the delivery of care for our patients. Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be confined to: –

  • New patient health checks and NHS Health Checks.
  • Venepuncture and the taking and preparing of pathology samples.
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate. Calculate weight and height measurements, calculate BMI and blood sugar levels, recording findings accurately onto our clinical system.
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring.
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Flu vaccinations, B12, Shingles, pneumonia vaccines etc under PSD.
  • Carry out ECGs as requested.
  • Carry out spirometry testing.
  • Ensure all clinicals rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
  • Ensure fridges are routinely cleaned in accordance with guidance.
  • Twice daily fridge temperature monitoring.
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the IPC policy.
  • Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and wellbeing.
  • Infection Control procedures are adhered to.
  • Complete administrative duties as required.
  • Ensure clinical waste collections run smoothly, reporting any problems to the nursing team.

Greasbrough Medical Centre is an innovative busy, friendly practice of 3,400 patients we operate on TPP SystmOne and general office computer systems. Our practice team is committed to providing a high standard of clinical care and an excellent service to patients. We have a strong multidisciplinary team comprising of two GPs, Practice Nurse, Clinical Pharmacist, HCA and Counsellor. We also have an experienced medical support team of administrators.

  • Urinalysis
  • Peak flow rates
  • Diabetic Foot Checks
  • NHS health checks
  • smoking cessation
  • Administer FLU/pneumococcal vaccines under PSD
  • Administer B12 injections under PSD
  • Spirometry/Reversibility under PSD
  • ABPM
  • Chronic disease management as applicable
  • recognise changes and abnormalities in patients conditions and act accordingly – notifying GP/Nurse of any significant issues
  • Stock control and ordering
  • Fridge temperature recording
  • Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory/ contractual/ professional requirements and good practice guidelines.
  • Act as chaperone
  • Maintain confidentiality Recall system for clinics
  • Undertake administrative duties when required assisting with QOF
  • Make suggestions for ongoing development
  • Processing of patient samples
  • safe management of sharps procedures, including training , use, storage and disposal

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified to NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care

Desirable

  • Qualified to NVQ Level 2
  • Working in GP Practice
