Job summary

DME Ward 21 are looking for a Health Care Assistant to join our friendly team and help assist the Registered Nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team in implementing the patients care plan.

Main duties of the job

  • Provides personal care to patients e.g. Bathing, toileting, feeding and care of the dying
  • Works in accordance to Trust policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates own duties to new starters and others as appropriate
  • Observes patients and reports any changes to a Registered Nurse
  • Take basic patient measurements eg height and weight

Knowledge and Skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience and training of manual handling patients using appropriate equipment
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of the importance of promoting patient independence
  • Able to provide support and reassurance to patients

Personal Attributes

Essential

  • Understand when to seek support and advice
  • Aware of personal and professional limitations
  • Ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • A positive attitude and ability to act on feedback
  • Polite, friendly, approachable and self-motivated

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential

  • Level 2 qualification (e.g. GCSE Grade A-C, NVQ2) in Health & Social Care OR A good standard of general education to GCSE level and the agreement to undertake the relevant L2 qualification on appointment
  • Completion of the Care Certificate theory and practice standards within 12 weeks of commencing employment with the Trust.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a clinical environment
  • Experience working in the NHS
